The General Bernard A. Schriever National Space Leadership Award

The General Bernard A. Schriever National Space Leadership Award is presented annually by the General Bernard A. Schriever Chapter of the Air Force Association to a National-level leader for their “Outstanding Leadership and Achievement in Support of the United States Air Force Missile and Space Programs.”

This award was created in 1975 by the General Schriever Chapter, with the concurrence of the AFA National leadership, both to honor General Schriever’s early and continuing leadership in creating this Nation’s missile and space programs, and to recognize those National leaders who have carried on his heritage.  This named award was created with General Schriever’s express consent and before he passed away in 2005, he was often consulted on potential selectees.

The recipient of each year’s award is nominated by the Executive Committee of the General Schriever Chapter, usually after consultation with numerous current space leaders, and the Commander of the Air Force’s Space and Missile Systems Center.  The selection is based on the recipient’s lifetime contributions to this Nation’s space and missile programs, as well as on the individual’s recent achievements.  Final selection confirmed by vote of the General Schriever Chapter Board of Directors.

The General Schriever Award traditionally is presented at the Chapter’s annual “Salute to SMC” Awards Banquet.
